New Goals For Sustainable Consumption
WWF and environmental organizations in 150 countries have long worked for a globally and legally binding plastic agreement to reduce plastic pollution. UN Environment Assembly Unea decided at a meeting this week that such an agreement should be initiated. This is a historic decision which is the largest environmental agreement since the Paris Agreement in 2015.
Great focus will be placed on product design to increase reuse, recycling and to promote circular economy. Skosh realized early on that the cleaning industry is a dirty business that causes large amounts of plastic waste and emissions of harmful chemicals. Here we list simple solutions for a more sustainable lifestyle and a healthy home - but at the expense of the planet.
Recycling is good - but reusing is better!
We humans live with habits and routines that can sometimes be difficult to break. How we get to and from work, what we eat and how we consume and recycle are just a fraction of the habits we have created for ourselves. To live more sustainably, we can all strive to make conscious choices and create habits that promote our future and environment.
Rubbish is not always rubbish. Recycling properly can rather be an asset to our planet. In Sweden, we are generally good at recycling, but our consumption is increasing and we are throwing up to 500 kilos of waste per person and year. If we instead recycle or reuse our waste, it becomes a resource, and it is only when our waste ends up in the wrong place that it becomes a problem. In Sweden, only 10% of all plastic recycled for new packaging and products is recycled, the rest is burned and leads to large carbon dioxide emissions. Plastic waste causes serious consequences in our oceans globally and if development continues on the same track, there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans by 2050.
What can we do to recycle smarter? A first step may be to learn the waste ladder, an EU directive that governs how our waste is to be taken care of. The waste ladder means that we primarily prevent and then reuse, recycle materials, recycle energy and finally deposit. With smarter waste management, it will be easier for everyone to do the right thing and reduce the amount of waste.
A global agreement for plastics
UN Environment Assembly Unea has decided to start negotiations on a "Paris Agreement" for plastic pollution. Future negotiations will include concrete measures and global goals for sustainable production and consumption of plastic products. According to a report from WWF The use of disposable products is one of the main reasons for the increase in plastic in our oceans.
The plastic produced needs to be reused to save energy and reduce environmental impact; therefore, we offer an easy way to minimize your consumption of disposable plastic for cleaning products. Our bottles off 100% recycled plastic are made for reuse, which means you never have to buy a disposable cleaning bottle again. No new plastic is produced and the production of PCR plastic requires less water, energy and fossil fuels.
Think about food waste
According to the National Food Administration, approximately 19 kilos of edible food is thrown in our rubbish per person and year. 26 kilos of food and drink are thrown in the sink. With a few simple tricks, we can reduce food waste, save money and make a big contribution to our planet and environment. Plan your purchases and do not buy more than you get rid of. See what you have at home and keep track of the food you have in the fridge and freezer - even at the very bottom.
To avoid bacteria, treat your refrigerator with care; cleaning the refrigerator once a year is far too rare. Our all-purpose cleaning has one higher pH which more easily removes ingrained dirt as well as grease and oils. Trust your senses and look, smell and taste before throwing away food that has passed the best before date. You can also buy food with a short date if you know that you will eat the food within the next few days. See your leftovers as a bonus! They can be a perfect lunch box or a whole new dish!
Minimize plastic consumption
Do we really need a cleaning cabinet filled with cleaning products for different purposes? With Skosh Starter Pack you get everything you need to cover all your cleaning needs - cleaning products completely without harmful chemicals and plastic waste. Skosh 3 in 1 cleaning tablets contains only natural ingredients and is 100% biodegradable. The harmless surfactants are broken down into non-contaminated compounds. When you have an empty bottle, just refill with new water and a new tablet instead of throwing it away and buying a new one.
Reuse your clothes
In Sweden, we throw away over 7,5 kilos of clothes per person and year; and only half of all new clothes are consumed each year. Garments we no longer need can be of great help to someone else and consuming clothes sustainably is a great way to take responsibility for our planet. Sell, give away or hand in your whole and clean clothes to clothing collections and hand in worn-out textiles to your municipality's collection of textile waste.
Make more climate-smart choices the next time you face buying a new garment. Shop second hand, borrow or exchange clothes with your friends. If you buy new production, invest in good quality garments and use your clothes often and for a long time - this is the best thing you can do for the environment. Washing wears a lot of clothes; air and remove occasional stains so the clothes last longer. With Skosh locally produced detergents, wash your clothes with gentle ingredients that are completely free of harmful chemicals.
