Spring cleaning - for your home and yourself
Spring is around the corner and what could be better than a wonderful spring cleaning? Remove all dust and dirt that has accumulated during the autumn and winter, and clean out what is no longer used. We're so ready for spring cleaning and cleaning, are you?
We are aware that it can feel a little heavy with spring cleaning, as there is much more to clean than what you normally do every week. Here it is important to clean in depth and do the work that then lays the foundation for the rest of the year. We will give you the best tips on what needs to be cleaned and how to proceed - all to make your spring cleaning easier!
Where do we start at home then? We can start with the bedroom, as it always feels nicer to have ticked off one cleaning area as soon as it is ready, before continuing on to the next. It becomes motivating and you suddenly get more energy to continue cleaning.
So, we start with the bedroom! Here you can start by, if you have the opportunity, take out all the bedding and shake them so that all the dust disappears. Even carpets and bedspreads are good to carve to get rid of all dirt. Once you have done this, you can vacuum the bed and the floor. In addition to this, there are also some invisible projects that are at least as important to deal with in the bedroom - namely the cleaning. It is important to clean in your drawers and see what you can donate or sell and what you want to keep. This can take time, but it is usually very nice when this has been done. Do not forget to wet dry on top of wardrobes and on the shelves!
After the bedroom, we can move on to the kitchen, where there are some areas that need a little care during the spring cleaning. What you can start with is cleaning the fridge, an area we have delved deep into before and which you can read more about here. It's a great feeling to open a tidy and organized refrigerator, and that's what you should strive for here. Also check if you need to defrost the fridge or freezer. Also wipe the cabinet doors, which you might otherwise easily miss. Cleaning the fan is another such thing, which is easily missed during weekly cleaning. If you have a dishwasher, it can also be good to give this a little extra love by following our guide here. The same applies to microns that can easily get dirty and that you may rarely clean. Also give it a little extra care during your spring cleaning.
After the kitchen we can go on to the bathroom, where we can go over the limescale deposits that easily arise in the bathroom. Pour some vinegar on these areas, let them work and then rinse it off. Also make sure to clean the drains. If you have a dryer and washing machine at home, this is also a great opportunity to clean these and rinse the compartments. To get a more detailed manual on this, check out here. Also clean the sink and nozzle on your shower.
Also make sure to wipe the kitchen chairs with a damp cloth. If you have a bookshelf somewhere in your home, it may also be time to clean it out - what do you want to keep, what can be donated or sold? This thought should also be applied to your clothes when they clean them out during your spring cleaning. Another wonderful thing to do during this cleaning day is to put away all the winter clothes and shoes in a box and put them away, and take the spring clothes out of their corner.
One area that is important to take care of during the spring cleaning and that will really make a difference is the windows. Since there can be a lot of dust when you move around the apartment during the cleaning, we had recommended that you take the windows last in the cleaning. If you have the opportunity, it is good to divide the windows as well and clean there, as dust - and especially in older windows - dust and sometimes even small insects can accumulate there. For a detailed manual regarding window cleaning, see here.
If you have a larger family, is it an excellent opportunity to make this day a family day, where you distribute responsibilities to everyone, where you have a common goal with the activity - maybe go to the cinema, go to a restaurant or order takeaway in the evening?
To recommend is to take this spring cleaning on a Saturday, when you get the evening off and also have the whole Sunday to recover. This of course applies even if there are only two or three people living in the household - maybe you live with your friends or have a partner? Then divide the areas of responsibility between you so that it becomes easier and above all more fun.
We also want to point out the topic we have touched on in a previous blog post: that cleaning is related to one's well-being. Studies have shown that a tidy home evokes feelings such as peace and a feeling of well-being. When you clean and organize, you take control of your environment and create an environment that makes you focus better - which makes you feel better. Cleaning can also get one in a better mood, as it gives a feeling of satisfaction and realization. So that spring cleaning only gives a positive outcome with not only a tidy home, but also leaves a wonderful feeling in oneself.
